In Ephesians 1, Paul tells us we have the Holy Spirit as the pledge of our inheritance that we will receive from being made a child of God. This is a wonderful thing to ponder! Earlier, Paul states that it is through faith that we were adopted into the family of God. Now, this adoption gave us equal standing with Jesus in the family of God! We receive the same inheritance as our brother, the Lord Jesus.
In fact, in Romans 8, it tells us that we are joint heirs with Jesus. Wow! What a great thought. But it gets better...
The Holy Spirit, Paul says, is our pledge that this inheritance is indeed ours. The word pledge is the word "arrabon", and it literally means down payment. When someone receives a down payment, it is a pledge that there is more to come. But how can that be?
Our pledge, our down payment that we have received
is no other than God Himself, God the Holy Spirit.
How can anyone receive any more when they have already received God Who is everything?
The only thing I can surmise is that God is so very big, that it will take an eternity for us to unwrap all that He is to us, and even an eternity will not be enough to exhaust Him.
Eternity is going to be forever discovering how good, grand, glorious, loving, merciful and kind God is to us. Amazing!
