This year let’s choose to live in a resolve, and the resolve is to live in Him and to have Him as our one thing.
In Acts 17:28 Paul says, “For in Him we live, and move, and have our being.” Have you ever read the text around this verse? Look at it! He says, “The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of Heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people Life and breath and all things; and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth…that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him,” and look at his quick clarification, “though he is not far from each one of us.” What does that text say? Just seek and you'll find Him (Matthew 7:7).
“For in Him, we live, and move and have our being.” Look at the language, “For we also are His children.” Who are you, beloved? If you are in Christ, you are the offspring of God, you are His Child.
So ours is not to make resolutions to live right or wrong, my friends, ours is just simply to resolve to be found in Him who is, by nature, always right and never wrong, and to find in Him the Life that just IS, so that we can live the Life that just IS, and live IN rest as we labor. Wow!
You know, I'll leave you with these words from John 15:5, these are such important words because they're just about the last words that Jesus told His disciples. So it would be like me on my deathbed, calling my four babies together saying, “This is the last thing I've got for you.” Does that help you see how important these words are? He tells them, “I am the vine; you are the branches.” Essentially he says, real life is found in Me the true vine. All you are is a branch and as a branch, you only have one responsibility, not to make all these resolutions to do this, to not do that. You’ll wear yourself out in the foolish process! Just connect to Me. That's all. I don't know about you, but I am so thankful that He kept it simple.
Just live in Him, so that Life will flow through you, and the manifestation of that life is going to be joy, and rest, and peace, and patience, and kindness, and goodness, and gentleness, and even self-control. Self-control WITHOUT making resolutions, how's that for a novel idea?!
So resolved. Jesus is my Life. Resolved. And because that's true, I can do all things in Him. I know how to be in abundance, I know how to be in little, I know how to be when things are going well, and I know how to be when things are not going so well, because He is my Life and my strength and He never sleeps, and He never slumbers. Wow!
